The goal of this internship is to provide a basic understanding of general husbandry of the animals located in the Elephant Department. Interns will gain hands-on experience in the field as they grow in their positions. They will be an important part of the team while assisting in achieving the Zoo’s mission.
The goal of this internship is to provide a basic understanding of general husbandry of the animals located in the Australia and the Islands region and avian areas of the Congo Expedition region. Students will gain hands-on experience in the field while learning the day-to-day responsibilities of a full-time Zookeeper.

The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium (CZA), located in Columbus, Ohio, offers a unique training opportunity for 3rd and 4th year veterinary students.
NOTE: This program fills rapidly and interested students are encouraged to apply as early as possible, ideally during the first or second year.

The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium embraces and pursues diversity, equity and inclusion in all hiring decisions.
Selected candidates will work with CZA veterinarians (all board-certified diplomates in the American College of Zoological Medicine) and support staff in all aspects of medical care and management of a diverse zoo and aquarium collection. The CZA’s animal health center a is well-equipped state-of-the-art and modern equipment and technology, including CT imaging, and we utilize a variety of DVM and MD specialists to assist us in with various surgical and other procedures. The CZA has an active ACZM residency program and veterinary preceptors have the opportunity to participate in case and journal rounds, as well as pathology reviews with The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
